GPS

The house address for Retreat on the Ridge is 351 Indian Paintbrush Drive, R532, Banner Elk, NC 28604.

If you have any trouble with GPS, drive through and out of Boone on HWY 105 toward Foscoe. After you pass the large sign for Echota—keep going another 1/4 mile and turn right onto Clark’s Creek. Wind up the mountain about half a mile and take a sharp left onto Echota Ridge (another big sign). At the gate, enter code 2154, and keep driving (slowly) until you turn left on Indian Paintbrush. At the center median, ease onto the left side and at the very end of this section of buildings you will see 351 on the left. We are top right.

Essentials

House Key

There is a keypad on the front door, and you will receive the code to the door the day of your arrival. You will use this code to unlock throughout your stay; when you leave for outings, hit any number on the keypad to lock the door behind you.

wifi

Network: NETGEAR43 Password: fancyapple177

Cell Phone service

The mountains are notoriously bad for cellular service. If you have Verizon, you can make and receive calls from certain locations. Use the wifi-assist feature on your phone to improve service dramatically inside the house.

people below!

Please be conscientious to avoid any jumping or banging (kids particularly) that would disturb our neighbors beneath us. We appreciate that kindness and respect…and they will too. Please keep music and conversation to respectful levels…particularly after 9pm.

Temperature

The thermostat for heating & cooling is in the kitchen. From the touch screen, you can select one of the named scenes (like “home” or “away”), or you can manually adjust the temperature up or down to your comfort.

TV

All TVs have 2 remote controls: one for the cable service and one for the TV itself (the loft TV also has a remote for the DVD player - “video” input). Use the TV remote to control volume, the cable remote to change channels. The big TV in the great room has also be used with many streaming services if you use your own subscription.

fireplace

Use the wall-mounted timer to the right of the TV to turn the fire on and off. If that doesn’t work, please call us for instructions…or let us know upon leaving. Please do not manipulate any of the other controls without direction!

Cooking

The kitchen should be pretty self-explanatory. In addition to the built-in appliances, there is a toaster oven, a blender, and hopefully all the tools you will need to enjoy pulling together meals simple or elaborate!

resort amenities

These beautiful facilities are located about a quarter mile to the north; Ridge pool & hot tub open May through September, closed for the winter (see map & address below). In the winter months, please use the indoor pool & hot tub in the lower neighborhood (also on map). Use your fob for entrance and sign in with the attendant with your name and unit number (R532). Wifi there: network is “Echota Clubhouse”, password is “echotanc.”

  • Colored pool towels are in the tops of the bedroom closets.

Safety & First Aid

There is a wide variety of wildlife in the area—from deer to turkey to foxes and coyotes to black bear. Never try to feed or touch wild animals. Just enjoy from a distance. Also, do not leave any trash or food items outside at night—this will invite visitors and a mess.

POA Rules

In return for all the beautiful resort amenities in our neighborhood, we have to abide by several rules from our Property Owners Association. Please take these seriously as we will be fined if they are not followed:

  1. No pets are allowed by renters, only by owners.

  2. No open flames are allowed on the deck—no candles or grills, except electric grills.

  3. No birdseed is allowed because it attracts bears. Really.

  4. No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property—in the house, on the deck, or in the common areas. There are just too many flammable things around.

Check-out Instructions

Closing up is a simple affair, so here are a few guidelines that will make it ready for our cleaners…

  1. Kitchen – Please either wash your dishes or load the dishwasher and start it before you leave.

    • Please note that putting the detergent in the dishwasher—and not actually starting the dishwasher—causes hardship to our cleaning crew.

  2. Linens & Towels – Please leave the linens on your beds and place your used towels in the laundry basket.

  3. Breakages & Damages – We understand that sometimes things break or get damaged; please let us know immediately if this happens so we can replace it for the next guest. If it’s small, just leave $10 or $20 to cover costs; if it’s bigger, we will work out an agreeable compensation for getting it fixed. Just please let us know asap.

  4. Courtesy – If you have moved any furniture, please place it back in its original position.

  5. Temperature – Please set the thermostat to 70 in the winter, or 76 in the summer.

  6. Trash – Leave up to three bags of trash in the kitchen. If you have more than three bags, please take your bags to the neighborhood dumpster on your way out. (Check the map above.)

  7. Fireplace – Please make sure the gas logs are turned off at the wall controller when you leave.

  8. Fob – The pool fob must be left on the kitchen counter. Replacement for lost fob is $50. Please leave remotes for TV in plain sight.

  9. Deadbolts – Please confirm that both doors to the deck have the deadbolt locks engaged—otherwise, the wind can blow them open! Then hit any number on the electronic door lock to lock the front door as you leave.

  10. Review! – Help us spread the word about this special place by giving us an excellent review on Airbnb. If your stay here was less than excellent, please let us know in the private comments so we can make it better.
